These topics are not meant to be limiting. The MAIE Conference is a call to look at ways to increase the impact of our work as International Educators - to better understand the spread of effective practices and to ensure that they continue. We welcome proposals from the entire MAIE network and its partners, including program directors and staff, students, faculty, researchers, policymakers, administrators, and advocates.
Key Notes
The key to a successful conference is to offer quality sessions. Please help us make this a successful conference by submitting session and pre-conference workshop proposals that address the professional challenges and interests of international educators.
The MAIE team needs you and this is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in your state association. You may submit a session idea to be a presenter. Some suggestions by section include:
RAP: ABC’s of international admissions, SEVIS issues, credential evaluations, recruitment strategies, etc. RAP also includes Testing (TOEFL alternate tests), ESL Administration, impact of SEVIS, advising issues unique to English language students.
EA: Study abroad, outreach, pre-departure and re-entry orientations, safety issues, facilitating exchange agreements.
ISSS: Best practices for transfer students, bridging academic policies with immigration; institutional policies handling less than full time enrollment; F-1/J-1 Basics and Advanced issues; SEVIS automatic maintenance and managing the alerts; FERPA/U.S.Patriot Act; Ethics. ISSS also includes Programming for families; cross-cultural programs; health care, education, internationalizing the campus; getting domestic students involved.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE SIG: Issues created by on-line classes & non-traditional courses; attracting students to orientation, F/ M issues.
REG OMBUDS: Basic F and J immigration issues, SEVIS issues; unauthorized employment, H-1B and permanent residency immigration issues, transition from OPT to H1-B; CPT issues.
IT SIG : Technical, SEVIS, RTI, Batch, and using technology in International Education. Also provides tech support for the MAIE team, assists with web site and listserv as well as secondary tech support during the conference.
